Be Quick!

Song Video

Lyrics

Jack be nimble. Jack be quick. Jack jumped over the candle stick. And I've never seen a little boy do such a trick. Jack be nimble. Jack be quick.

When you see her passing by, boy, you better let her know that she's caught your eye. 'Cause while you're fumblin' with somethin' to say, another fellow steps in and takes her away.

Jack be nimble. Jack be quick. Jack jumped over the candle stick. And I've never seen a little boy do such a trick. Jack be nimble. Jack be quick.

Love can come and love can leave. But, in your heart you've just got to believe that what went away can come someday, and walk back in. And love that was lost can be found again.

Jack be nimble. Jack be quick. Jack jumped over the candle stick. And I've never seen a little boy do such a trick. Jack be nimble. Jack be quick.

If you're plannin' on makin' a move, and giving your heart away. Don't you wait, or hesitate, or take too long, or someone will take your place!

Jack be nimble. Jack be quick. Jack jumped over the candle stick. And I've never seen a little boy do such a trick. Jack be nimble. Jack be quick.

Information About Be Quick!

This song was originally known as "Jack Be Nimble" and is a nursery rhyme. The rhyme was first collected by James Orchard Halliwell in the mid-nineteeth century but a version has been recorded as far back as 1815.

Jumping the candlestick was believed to bring good luck, it was also associated with fortunetelling.

Another folk lore suggests the rhyme was connected to Yellow Fever (also known as the Yellow Jack fever), which people kept at bay by burning flames. Candles would be lit up at the bed sides of children to help keep the fever away.

The lyrics above are taken from an adaption of the nursery rhyme by Philip Wade.
