Black Socks
Black Socks Lyrics
Black socks, they never get dirty
the longer you wear em the blacker they get
Sometimes I think I should change em but something keeps telling me
Oh no not yet ... not yet

Black Socks Alternative Lyrics
Alternative version
Black socks, they never get dirty.
The longer you wear 'em, the stiffer they get.
Sometimes, I think of the laundry,
But something inside me says "Don't send them yet"
Another version
Black socks they never get dirty,
the longer you wear them the stronger they get
Sometimes I think I should launder them
Something keeps telling me do it right right now!
Yet another version
Black socks, they never get dirty.
The longer you wear them, the blacker they get.
Sometimes I think of the laundry;
But something keeps telling me don't wash them yet not yet, not yet, not yet...
One more
Black socks they never get dirty
the longer you were them the stronger they get
Sometimes I think I should wash them
but something keeps telling me Not yet not yet not yet
Another Version
They never shut up
The more that you shush them
The louder they get
Sometimes I think about muzzles
But something inside me says
Oh no, not yet
Here is another version of the song:
Black Socks they never get dirty
the longer you wear them
the blacker they get
Someday I think I should wash them
but something keeps telling me don't do it yet
not yet, not yet, not yet

An Interesting Game With This Song Sent By Bussongs.com Reader:
Eeryone is made to stand in a group. Hold hands and sing this song and then we say "Do you love your neighbor?" "It" (who is standing in the middle) says "Yes, I love my neighbor. Especially the ones that... (ex. wear blue)". Everybody that fits this description runs across the middle of the circle to a different spot without getting tagged by "it". Game continues with a new "it" and the singing of "Black Socks".

The one I know is similar to the last one in the alternate versions. It is: Black socks, they never get dirty The longer you wear them the blacker they get. Someday, I think I may launder them But something keeps telling me don't do it yet.

At camp we sang this: Black socks, they never get dirty the longer you wear them the blacker they get. Some day i think i might wash them but something inside me says don't do it yet not yet, not yet. White socks they alwyas get dirty, the longer you wear them the dirtier they get. someday i think i might wash them, but sonthing inside me says don't do it yet not yet, not yet Green beans they never get eaten, the longer they sit there the greener they get. someday i think i might eat them, but something in side me says don't do it yet not yet, not yet Girl Scouts, they never stop singing, The longer they sing the LOUDER THEY GET! Someday, i think i might stop them, but sonething inside me says don't do it yet. not yet, NOT YET!

Dear Greggy in Croydon, I assure you it is not intended to be racist. My cross country running team sings this. It's just about what it says... Black socks. No reference to people of the black race...

At my camp--in California-- we sing it like this: Black socks they never get dirty the longer you wear them the cleaner they get, someday I think I may wash them but something's been telling me don't do it yet, not yet, not yet, not yet.

The version I learned in girl guides when I was like six was " black socks, they never get dirty, the longer you wear them the shorter they get. Sometimes I think I might wash them but something inside me says " not yet, not yet, not yet..". I think the real version is supposed to be " the stronger they get" because they smell worse and worse because they haven't been washed. Black socks don't actually get blacker, they get browner but they suuurrreee do keep smelling worse and worse!

In Macapella (my school choir) we use Black Socks as a warm up - varying the pitch, volume, speed and notes. But it is a different version to all of those; "black socks they never get dirty the longer you wear them the better they get, sometimes I think I should wash them then something inside me says don't do it yet, not yet, not yet, not y-et"
By Annasophia from United States on 1 May 2012
I am wearing black socks today! I had to sing this in Chorus for a warm up!
