Bluebird, Bluebird On My Window

Lyrics

Bluebird, bluebird, through my window.
Bluebird, bluebird, through my window.
Bluebird, bluebird, through my window.
Oh, Johnny, I am tired.

Redbird, redbird, through my window.
Redbird, redbird, through my window.
Redbird, redbird, through my window.
Oh, Johnny, I am tired.

Yellowbird, yellowbird, through my window.
Yellowbird, yellowbird, through my window.
Yellowbird, yellowbird, through my window.
Oh, Johnny, I am tired.

The Absent Game Involving me and my husband we have owned a lot more MP3 garmes over the years than I can count, which include Sansas, iRivers, iPods (basic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few decades I've settled down to one line of players .

Yes, the song is repetitious , thus easy for preschoolers to learn. They enjoy the repetition . Examples: "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?", "Duck, Duck, Goose", " Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed"

I sing this song slowly, in a soft voice as a lullabye for my daughter --she loves it! I think the repitition is very soothing. Oh, and i change the last line to "oh, mommy i'm so tired." :)

I remember this song from elementary school too. Everyone holds hands in a circle weaving under everyone's arms then the Second verse after "oh Johnny I'm tired." We would sing while tapping on the persons shoulder we stopped at. We sang, " There's a little bird tapping on my shoulder, There's a little bird tapping on my shoulder, There's a little bird tapping on my shoulder. Oh Johnny I'm Tired. " Then the person who's shoulder was being tapped would take the lead weaving in and out under the arms.

Yeah, Janet, there is a circle game that goes with this song that we used to do when i was in elementary school. I used to love this song. All the kids would stand in a circle at arms-length apart from each other while the child that was picked as the bluebird would weave in and out of the circle between the children until the line 'oh Johnny, I am tired' was sung. Then the refrain (which is missing above ) starts 'Take a little boy/girl and tap him/her on the shoulders, take a little boy/girl and tap him/her on the shoulders, take a little boy/girl and tap him/her on the shoulders, Oh, Johnny, I am tired' , during which the child would tap the little girl or boy on the shoulders and then when the bird verse started again the two children joined together, one holding on to the shoulders of the other, would both starting weaving in and out of the circle again through the other children.

I think there is a game that goes along with this song too. Every one stands in a circle holding hands with their hands up. When someone goes through they put their hands down closing the window. There are a few more rules but I forgot them.
