De Colores

Information About De Colores

De Colores means "Made of Colors" in Spanish and is thought to have its origins in a song brought to South America over 500 years ago. The modern version of the song and lyrics are typically from the 1960s.

This song has been sung by such famous recording artists as: Arlo Gutherie, Los Lobos, Joan Baez, Justo Lamas and many other folk and civil rights singers.

The song was the unofficial anthem for the Untied Farm Workers union and has been used at many of their rallies.

The song is taught at many summer camps, labor strikes, worker rights protests and Christian revivals. The lyrics of the song are typically changed to reflect the issues of the day.

This is the English translation

De Colores
De Colores the fields love to dress in all during the springtime
De Colores
De Colores the birds have their clothing that comes every season
De Colores
De Colores the rainbow is vested across the blue sky
De Colores and so must all love be
of many bright colors
to make my heart cry
De Colores and so must all love be
of many bright colors
to make my heart cry.

Sings the rooster
Sings the rooster with his kiri kiri kiri kiri kiri
And the cluck hen
And the cluck hen with her cara cara cara cara cara
And the baby chicks
And the baby chicks with their pio pio pio pio pi
De Colores and so must all love be
of many bright colors
to make my heart cry
De Colores and so must all love be
of many bright colors
to make my heart cry.

I would suggest a change "and the cluck hen" to "and the hen clucks"

...Y por eso los grandes amores de muchos colores me gustan a mi... ...and so don't you see what is pleasing to me, it's the colors that make my heart sing!

The English translation needs to be revised. You are talking about colors. Of Colors the fields in the springtime get dressed. Of Colors are the birds that come every season. Of Colors is the rainbow that we see shine. And that is why big loves of many colors I like.
