Information About Do You Hear What I Hear
"Do You Hear What I Hear?' is an American Christmas carol written in 1962 and was written as a plea for peace and understanding during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The composer, Noel Rigney living in N. Y. in the 50s was walking home in a depressed mood. "I saw two mothers with their babies in strollers. The babies were looking at each other and smiling. All of a sudden, my mood was extraordinary". Inspired he wrote the lyrics and handed them to his wife, Gloria Shane, who wrote the music.
"Do You Hear What I Hear?' was first recorded by Harry Simeone Chorale, but it was Bing Crosby's version that became a worldwide smash hit in 1963. Since then there have been multiple interpretations from a variety of artists.
