Down By The Bay

Down By The Bay Lyrics

Down by the bay,
Where the watermelons grow.
Back to my home,
I dare not go.
Because if I do,
My mother will say,
"Did you ever see a bear combing his hair?"
Down by the bay.

Down by the bay,
Where the watermelons grow.
Back to my home,
I dare not go.
Because if I do,
My mother will say,
"Did you ever see a goose kissing a moose?"
Down by the bay.

Down by the bay,
Where the watermelons grow.
Back to my home,
I dare not go.
Because if I do,
My mother will say,
"Did you ever see a whale with a polka dot tail?"
Down by the bay.

Down by the bay,
Where the watermelons grow.
Back to my home,
I dare not go.
Because if I do,
My mother will say,
"Did you ever see a pig wearing a wig?"
Down by the bay.

Down by the bay,
Where the watermelons grow,
Back to my home,
I dare not go.
Because if I do,
My mother will say,
"Did you ever see a cat wearing a hat?"
Down by the bay.

Down by the bay,
Where the watermelons grow,
Back to my home,
I dare not go.
Because if I do,
My mother will say,
"Did you ever see a dragon pulling a wagon?"
Down by the bay.

Down by the bay,
Where the watermelons grow,
Back to my home,
I dare not go.
Because if I do,
My mother will say,
"Did you ever see a goat wearing a coat?"
Down by the bay.

Down by the bay,
Where the watermelons grow,
Back to my home,
I dare not go.
Because if I do,
My mother will say,
"Did you ever have a time-
when you couldn't find a rhyme?"
Down by the bay.

Information About Down By The Bay

"Down by the Bay" is the name of a traditional children's song which is often sung around campfires by Boy Scouts.

It is possibly of Greek origin: a traditional Cephalonian kantada song called "Yialo Yialo" has a similar melody.

Never heard this in all my years and I'm very old!. My surrogate grandaughter sang it last night and it was lovely. We added things like - Polly with her very old Dolly and Mummy sucking a dummy. I loved it and will teach it to my own grandchildren when my own kids have children. (Not that I'm nagging them to!)
