Information About Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
''Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes'' is a children's song. Generally the song is sung using just the one verse but variations to the main verse can be added just by using different parts of the body.
The song is often used at schools and kindergartens with the children standing and following the action of the teacher, often the song is sung progressively faster until the children start making mistakes.
One version of ''Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes'' is sung to the melody of ''London Bridge Is Falling Down''.
Zita Newcome has compiled a great little book of classic children's activity songs that also describes all the motions associated with each song, including "Head Shoulders Knees and Toes". You can read the full review on the Amazon site: Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes: And Other Action Rhymes

This song is actually based off a cornish folk song: There is a tavern in the town. Is the same tune but is longer (has a bridge, intro etc). It should be easy sheet music to find for piano and is quite easy to play. This way kids can sing along. Try making up extra bits even for a fun activity?

I love this song and so as my beautiful girls in the class,, they learned the parts of the body quickly with this song.. thanks..
By Cynthia from Ottawa, On on 29 January 2010
This song is sung to the tune of London Bridges, so the sound clip is correct.
By Ivan from Cambridge, England on 24 March 2010
Round these parts it's always to the same tune as "There is a tavern in the town", as "London Bridge is falling down" doesn't match the rhythm on the text once you get to the "my fair lady". Maybe it's sung differently in Ottawa?
By Shannon from Edmonton, Canada on 9 June 2010
It sounds better using Tavern. I agree with Ivan - the "my fair lady" part is awkard for the "eyes, ears mouth and nose" part.
By Mike from United States on 18 January 2011
I believe I learned this from Sharon Lois and Bram, and the first line of the melody was Sol Sol La Sol Fi Sol Mi, Sol Sol Sol (not london bridge)
By Wendel from Antarctica on 22 January 2011
Goung to use this song when teaching. Tanxx!
By Megan from United States on 7 March 2011
This doesn't really answer my question... >.< I need to know who wrote it, not the lyrics or how to do the motions.
By Eilah from Philippines on 24 March 2011
love it! this song is good for the young ones..
By Cole from Canada on 2 May 2011
the lyrics are wrong and should actually be, "head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes, knees and toes." Knees and toes 3 times not 2, then it goes with the rhythm of london bridge.
By Ira from Ukraine on 19 June 2011
the musik doesn't fit the words of heads and shoulders song. It sounds more like ... my fair lady song..
By Shelby from Djibouti on 18 August 2011
