Hey Diddle Diddle
Hey diddle diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon,
The little dog laughed to see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon.
Hey Diddle Diddle Alternative Lyrics
A lesser known version from Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
And the cat on his fiddle
Played hey diddle diddle
A tune that could wake the dead
A little familiar version
With a ping and a pong
The fiddle strings broke
The cow jumped over the moon
the little dog laughed to see such fun
And the Saturday dish went off at a run with the silver Sunday spoon.
Short Version
Hey diddle diddle
The cat and the guitar
The cow jumpde over the star
The little dog barfed
To see such strife
And the dish ran away with the knife
Information About Hey Diddle Diddle
Hey Diddle Diddle is an English nursery rhyme of which the earliest recorded publication was in John Newbery’s compilation Mother Goose’s Melody from 1765.
Because of the wonderful imagery mentioned in the rhyme there are many theories that try to explain its origin and meaning, however it is most probably just nonsense and without meaning.

Who wrote the alternative lyrics? I've never heard any of that. Is that seriously in LOTR... I don't recall reading that...

Missclt - hardly an appropriate comment for a children's nursery rhyme! Try getting a life.
