Horsie, Horsie, Don't You Stop

Information About Horsie, Horsie, Don't You Stop

Horsie, Horsie, Don't You Stop is a children's song that is fun and silly.

This song was written in 1938 by Ralph Butler, Paddy Roberts, and Elton Box.

It became a very popular kids' song recently as singer, Jack Johnson, featured it on one of his albums made for children.

This song can be taught to children in a few ways. The lyrics about feet going "clippety clop" can be a moment in the lesson where teachers can allow their children to make hoof noises with instruments that they may have in the classroom. Teachers can show them that this is the sound that horses make when they run.

This can also be a song that can start a lesson on horses. Teachers can show students pictures of horses and even take the children on a field trip to visit a stable or horse farm.

Alternative Lyrics & Related Songs

This is a different version of the song. It has 3 stanzas.

Horsie, horsie don't you stop,
Just let your feet go clippety clop,
Your tail goes swish and the wheels go round,
Giddy up we're homeward bound.

Steady Neddy off you trot,
Just let your feet go clippety clop,
Your tail goes swish and the wheels go round,
Giddy up we're off to town.

Horsie, horsie don't you stop,
Just let your feet go clippety clop,
Your tail goes swish and the wheels go round,
Giddy up we're homeward bound.

Horsey horsey on your way we've been together for a many of days so make your tail go swish and your wheels go round giddy up we're home we're bound. Well I like to take my horse and buggy when I go ridding into town I like to hear those hooves go clip-clip. I like to see those wheels go around. so make your tail go swish and your wheels go round giddy up where home where BOUND

Learned this as a camp song, with the first verse as above, but then these words: "I like to take a horse and buggy when I go traveling through the town, I like to hear old Dobbin clip-clop, I like to feel those wheels go 'round." Tune for this verse is slightly different, then we would repeat the first verse.

I've been singing that song since I was a little girl. I now sing it to my horses. Horsey, horsey, on your way, we've been together for many a day so let your tail go swish and the wheels go around, Giddy Up we're home ward bound. I like to take a horse and buggy and go traveling through the town, I like to hear old Dobbin's Clip Clops, I like to feel the wheels go around, Clip Clop, Clip Clop, Clip Clop, Clip Clop (then repeat the first voice again). We also sang it in a "round", starting with the Clip Clop, (over and over again as the song is sung).

Here is how I learned this song: Horsey Horsey on your way, we'll be together for many a day So let your tail go SWISH as the wheels go round Giddy-UP! We're homeward bound. I like to ride the horse and buggy I like to travel through the town I like to hear old Dobbin's "clip-clop" I like to see the wheels go round. Horsey, horsey, don't you stop! Just let your feet go "clippity-clop" And let your tail go Swish! as the wheels go 'round Giddy-UP, we're homeward bound. We learned it years ago in my son's Development Preschool at University of WA (Seattle, WA, USA) I use it now as a song to engage with fragile folk who have Alzheimers/Dementia, they love it. Wish I could find some coconut shells to have them click together to the rhythm of the song! Would be perfect!

there is it's Farmer Grey's got a one horse shay He takes to town on market day Coming home when the lights are low He sings this song as away they go. Chorus: Horsey, Horsey don't you stop Just let your feet go clipity clop Your tail goes swish and the wheels go round Giddy up we're homeward bound. Horsey horsey on your way We've done the journey many a day Your tail goes swish and the wheels go round Giddy up we're homeward bound. We ain't in a hustle, we ain't in a bustle Don't go tearing up the road We ain't in a hurry, we ain't in a flurry And we ain't got a very heavy load Chorus Going home when they get half way They call a halt at the Load of Hay He has just one, then he has one more And you'll hear him sing after three or four You don't need the whip no goodness knows You don't need the whip so I'll take a little doze Horsey horsey on your way We've done the journey many a day your tail goes swish and the wheels go round Giddy up we're homeward bound. Chorus
