Over in Oz we say: " How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood? A woodchuck would chuck as much wood, as a woodchuck could, if a woodchuck could chuck wood!" The way we say it makes the beats the same and it makes more sense!

i have a 78 record since childhood (late 40s) made by Disney with the Woodchuck song on it. loved it and remember this much (no way to play my record anymore): he'd chuck redwood, hardwood, softwood, dogwood, hickory and oak wood, a woodchuck would chuck to chuck a little wood. gigi
By Joe from United States on 24 October 2010
I had a 78 record before I started school in the early 1950's. It was a Woody Woodpecker record. I use to sing the song, but I can't remember the whole thing. What I can remember is, "What kind of wood would a woodcuck cuck if a woodcuck could cuck wood? He'd cuck Harwood, softwood, redwood, dogwood, cottonwood, plywood , hickory, peach... I don't remember the rest. I hope somebody remembers the rest.
By Cricket from United States on 5 November 2010
I learned it this way - "How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood. If a woodchuck could chuck wood, how much wood would a woodchuck chuck. A woodchuck would chuck all the wood he could if a woodchuck could chuck wood." It's neat to see all the different versions learned over time. Sure would like to get hold of one of those old records. I still have a player to play it on. Boy does that show my age.
By Right Answer from United States on 6 November 2010
It's "How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? A woodchuck would chuck all the wood he could if a woodchuck could chuck wood." Its a matter of timing..it has a certain rhythm that it needs to follow.
By Bridget from United States on 8 November 2010
I remember some other verses, help me recall, just how high can a horse fly fly if a horsefly could fly high? Just how low can a rodeo go if a rodeo could go low? It's a world of silly phrases, a (something, something) on a string... I remember singing this in choir in the 70's!
