Irish Lullaby
Song Lyrics & Words
Over in Killarney,
Many years ago,
Me mother sang a song to me
In tones so sweet and low.
Just a simple little ditty,
In her good old Irish way,
And I'd give the world if she could sing
That song to me this day.
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Hush, now don't you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
That's an Irish lullaby.

Although this song was sung to me as a babe, I don't recall hearing it until my children were born (1981 & 1985) when my Dad - being the nuturer of my parents - sang it to my children as he got them to sleep. He passed away more than 20 yrs ago when my oldest child was only 6 and youngest was 2 1/2 yrs old. Now - I am looking forward to being a Grandparent myself and wanted to find these lyrics so I can sing this lullaby to MY Grandchildren as well. I haven't heard it sang since my Dad sang it and I had forgotten a couple of the lines - until today when I searched for and found the lyrics online. It was very comforting to read those words that brought back precious memories to me as I could hear my Dad voice as he sang those words to my children. I have to say that I was a little frustrated when I found another website that allowed you to listen to the song itself - BUT they mis-pronounced one of the words incorrectly which completely threw out the ryhme! They pronouced " Too-ra-loo-ra-li" - "Too-ra-loo-ra-LEE" - when in fact it should be "Too-ra-loo-ra-LIE". (To ryhme with " Hush, now don't you CRY!" and "That's an Irish LULLABY". :-) Thank you for the memories and thank you for allowing me to share this!
