Mary Had a Little Lamb
Mary Had a Little Lamb Lyrics
Mary had a little lamb,
Little lamb, little lamb.
Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow.
And ev'ry where that Mary went,
Mary went, Mary went.
Evrywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go.
It followed her to school one day,
School one day, school one day.
It followed her to school one day,
which was against the rule.
It made the children laugh and play,
Laugh and play, laugh and play.
It made the children laugh and play,
laugh and play to see a lamb at school.
So the teacher turned him out
turned him out
turned him out
So the teacher turned him out
And sent him straight away.

Mary Had a Little Lamb Alternative Lyrics
It waited out pittin about,
Pittin about, pittin about,
And waited out pittin about
’Till Mary would appear
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
Love Mary so? Love Mary so?
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
The eager children cried
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
the lamb, you know; the lamb, you know
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
The teacher did reply.
And then our Mary did fall down,
Did fall down, did fall down
And then our Mary did fall down,
And her lamb went to her side.
Now our Mary’s gone away,
Gone away, gone away
Now our Mary’s gone away,
Her lamb still by her side.
Long Version
Mary had a little lamb,
Little lamb, little lamb,
Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow
And everywhere that Mary went,
Mary went, Mary went,
Everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go
It followed her to school one day
School one day, school one day
It followed her to school one day
Which was against the rules.
It made the children laugh and play,
Laugh and play, laugh and play,
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school
And so the teacher turned it out,
Turned it out, turned it out,
And so the teacher turned it out,
But still it lingered near
And waited patiently about,
Patiently about, patiently about,
And waited patiently about
Till Mary did appear
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
Love Mary so? Love Mary so?
"Why does the lamb love Mary so?"
The eager children cry
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
Loves the lamb, you know, loves the lamb, you know
"Why, Mary loves the lamb, you know."
The teacher did reply
Additional Version
Mary had a little lamb
Her father shot it dead
And now it goes to school with her between to chunks of bread
Mary had a little cow
She fed it safety pins
And every time she milked the cow
The milk came out in tins
Information About Mary Had a Little Lamb
"Mary Had a Little Lamb" is a nursery rhyme dating back to 19th-century America. The story behind the song's origin is very interesting and based on a real life incident: a student, Mary Sawyer, had a pet lamb she took to school one day which then created havoc.
"Mary Had a Little Lamb" was first published as an original poem in 1830 and was written by author Sarah Josepha Hale and set to music by renowned church music composer Lowell Mason.
Today there stands a statue of Mary's Little Lamb in the town centre of Mary Sawyer ‘s hometown of Sterling, Massachusetts.
A visitor from Virginia remembered the last verse and sent it our way.
Thanks bunches!

My sister will love to hear this song. Her name is Marylynn. She is mentally handicapped...loves music...and likes to sing along with this song, perhaps because it includes her name sung throughout. I will play for her this Christmas!
