Would it be possible to get a phonetic version as well? I want to pronounce the Spanish (I think it's Spanish) properly.

In Puerto Rico we sing this version: Cuatro elefantes Se balanceaban sobre una tela de la araña Como no sabian lo que sucedia fueron a parar a la funeraria. (Four elephants were balancing on a spider's web since they didn't know what was happenning they ended up in the funeral parlor)

In Puerto Rico only those from Ponce sing the weird version (Pier's comment above) - my wife is from Ponce and it is FUNNY every time she sings it to our baby or in the house. The rest of the island sings the not-so-dark version ..."Cuatro elefantes se balanceaban sobre una tela de araña...Como veian que no se mecia fueron a buscar otro elefante...." .... the dudes went looking for another pal b/c the web wasn't moving.... Nobody died or ended up at the funeral parlor... :-)

this is cool! As a nanny, we always sang an English song similar to this (one elephant went out to play upon a spider's web one day- makes me wonder if the Americans got the song from the Mexican version or vice versa. Thanks for sharing it!

I couldn't let this one go by without my two cents. It is funny how in various parts of Latin America we have different versions of this same song. Our version in Central America focuses on counting up vs. down and is as follows: Un elefante se balanceaba sobre la tela de un arana, y cuando vio que resistio fue a llamar a su camarada. Dos elefantes se balanceaban sobre la tela de un arana, y cuando vieron que resistia fueron a llamar a su camarada. Tres elefantes..... Cuatro elefantes.... Cinco elefantes.... This version can be endless, but that is the point. To teach kids a fun way of counting either in a new language or their primary language.
