Mister Moon

Lyrics

Mister Moon, Mister Moon,
You're out too soon;
The sun is still in the sky.
Go back to bed and cover up your head,
And wait till the day goes by!

I also sang it as a Girl Scout. The only difference is we sang "Rest your sleepy head" instead of cover up your head. We also sang it as a round with Twas on a summers evening I walked the garden through When suddenly I heard it a sweet and soft Koo-koo Koo- koo, Koo-koo Koo- koo koo koo... I sang it to my son as a lullaby. I heard him singing it now to his daughter.

I learned this song in Girl Scouts as well, and sang it to my 4 children as a lullaby also, but there is another verse, and in scouts we sang it as a round. Twas on a summers evening I walked the garden through When suddenly I heard it a sweet and soft Koo-koo Koo- koo, Koo-koo Koo- koo koo koo... repeating the koo- koo's once more.

I learned this song in Girl Scout (Brownies) day camp and have sung it as a lullaby to all 3 of my children. They love it! We do the last line slightly different: "And wait till the day is night!"

This web site brings back so many memories for me. My gradmother used to sing some of these songs to me and now I'm able to sing them to my grandchildren.
