Monkeys In A Tree

Song Video

Lyrics

Five little monkeys sitting in a tree
Teasing Mister Alligator:
"can’t catch me, can’t catch me!"
Along comes Mister Alligator quiet as can be and

SNAP!

Four little monkeys sitting in a tree
Teasing Mister Alligator:
"can’t catch me, can’t catch me!"
Along comes Mister Alligator quiet as can be and
SNAP!

Three little monkeys sitting in a tree
Teasing Mister Alligator:
"can’t catch me, can’t catch me!"
Along comes Mister Alligator quiet as can be and
SNAP!

Two little monkeys sitting in a tree
Teasing Mister Alligator:
"can’t catch me, can’t catch me!"
Along comes Mister Alligator quiet as can be and
SNAP!

One little monkey sitting in a tree
Teasing Mister Alligator:
"can’t catch me, can’t catch me!"
Along comes Mister Alligator quiet as can be and
SNAP! Missed me!

Information About Monkeys In A Tree

Monkeys in a Tree is a counting song for young children. For each verse, the number of monkeys is reduced by one. The verses are repeated until the last monkey is eaten. The song finishes with the line; "No more monkeys sitting in the tree". There is an action for each line in the song:For the the first line, hold up the number of fingers that are the same as the number of monkeys and move your hand back and forth. For the second line, both hands are held to either side of the head and twisted, as if you were teasing someone. For the third line, place one hand on top of the other and move them from side to side, like an alligator moving through the water. On the word, "snap", open and close your hands like an alligator snapping at a monkey. Repeat for each verse.

There are several alternative lyrics and additional versus for this song including a change of the first line of the first verse to "Five little monkeys swinging in a tree".

This is an offensive song and should have a warning label.

I have just had a little boy in the school playground saying today that he wanted to sing the 'can't catch me' song - and here it is! Thanks.

Since I was young, I was trying to think if this was just a Barney song (yes, it was chanted on barney) or a real song. Now I know it's real! Thanks, bus songs! You saved my life.
