Mr. Touchdown

Song Video

They always call him Mr. Touchdown;
They always call him Mr. T.
He can run and he can throw;
Just give him the ball and look at him go!

Hip hip hooray for Mr. Touchdown;
He's gonna beat em today;
So, lets give a great big cheer
for the hero of the year;
It's Mr. Touchdown, USA.

At Plymouth High School in Plymouth, PA the lyrics included these references to Wilkes-Barre and Wyoming Valley high school opponents: Remember the way he murdered Meyer’s Mohawks Remember the way he pickled poor old Plains The boys from GAR were held as tight as tar He took old Coughlin’s blue and red And made ‘em black and blue instead Remember the way he broke the heart of the Hawkeyes He knocked the double “L” from Larksville’s best Look out sister, here comes Mr. Touchdown PHS

This tune has stayed with me for 50 years. We had a great team, school spirit, and a soda bar where used to pile into after the games and sing it all day. No smoking, no pot, no drugs--just clear fun. We loved the memories this song gave us so much we will be singing it at our 50th Reunion in the summer. It was on the juke box at every at every booth and the owner. Jack loved the fun too.

I learned this song when in high school choir in the late 1950's-early '60's. I have always remembered the song because the choir had so much fun singing it! I am 70 now.
