My Kitty

Lyrics

My kitty my kitty my little grey kittie,
I hunted the place all around.
I looked in the cradle and under the table and nowhere could kitty be found.
I went to the brook to take a look, to see if my kitty been drowned.
But when I got there the brook was bare and nowhere could kitty be found.
I went to the woods to talk a walk and you'll never believe what I found a little grey kitty all soft and warm curled up asleep on the ground.

My grandma who is 96 use to sing it to me to put me to sleep and she would sing it like this I once had a kitty, so cunning and pretty That played by my side all the day I feared some bad boys with their pop guns and noise Have frightened my kitty away, Kitty, my kitty, my dear little kitty, I've hunted the house all around, I've looked over the cradle and under the table But no where could kitty be found. I sent my dog Rover to look the fields over And bring back my kitty to me, No dog could be kinder but he couldn't find her Come, come dear kitty to me,Kitty, my kitty, my dear little kitty, I've hunted the house all around I looked over the cradle and under the table, But no where could kitty be found. I went to the woodpile and stayed their a good while but no where could kitty be found I did the same thing day after day but no where could kitty be found.

My great-great-aunt always used to sing me this song when I was little. But it was a bit different: I lost my poor kitty, so cunning and pretty That played by my side all the day I fear some bad boys with their pop guns and noise Have frightened my kitty away Kitty, my kitty, my poor little kitty I've hunted the house all around I've looked in the cradle and under the table But no place can kitty be found I sent my dog Rover to look the fields over And bring back my kitty to me No dog could be kinder but he could not find her Come, come pretty kitty to me Kitty, my kitty, my poor little kitty I've hunted the house all around I looked 'neith the cradle and under the table But no place can kitty be found At last I have found her Brown leaves falling 'round her Way up in the top of a tree I don't know what she's doin' But I hear her mewin' Come, come naughty kitty to me Kitty, my kitty, my poor little kitty I've hunted the house all around I've looked in the cradle and under the table And at last my poor kitty is found It seems like there are a lot of versions of this song, but none quite matching the one I always heard. Just wanted to share :)

My grandmother who died at 94 in 1985 use to sing us this song to sleep. It is a little different version then the rest. But it always made me sad. I would really like to know the history and real words to this song. I lost my kitty, my poor little kitty. I hunted the garden round. I looked under the cradle and under the table, but no where my kitty was found. I saw a boy trundle away a small bundle far far away down to the brook. Could that be my kitty so cuddly and pretty I guess I'll go down there and look. So I took my hook and went down to the brook, so see if my kitty was there? Alas she was found, but alas she was drown, so now I give up in despair. Repeat from start. Such a sad sad song.

My kitty my kitty so cunning and pretty. I wonder where kitty could be? I looked in the cradle and under the table, but nowhere could kitty be found. I saw a little boy run away with a bundle and carried it down to the brook. Perhaps it was kitty, my little grey kitty. I think I'll go down there and look. And if I find my kitties been drowned, I think I'll give up in dispare. So I took my hook and I went to the brook, to see if my kitty was there. Youre little grey kitty has not been drowned. He just ran right out of the door. So before you take, this promise please make. You won't blame the boys anymore. .

My family started the song like this: Where O where is my pretty gray kitty, I hunted all over the house. I looked in the cradle and under the table but no where can kitty be found. It's really neat how so many families sang this song, but differently. I don't think any version is wrong it just adds something unique. It kinda makes it more special that your family had their own version.

Found some mistakes in my version of this song I'll start it over I lost my kitty, my little gray kitty, I hunted the hluse all around. I looked under the table and under the cradle but nowhere my kitty be found, then i saw a boy stumble he had a very small bundle he was taking it down to the brook. Perhaps its my kitty, my little gray kitty, i think I'll go have a look. So I took my hook and I went to the brook to see if my kitty was there. By the time I had found it , my poor kitty had drowned so I gave up in dispair.

the words are wrong, " I saw a bad boy go by with a bundle he carried it down to the brook. My kitty my kitty my pretty grey kitty I think I will go there and look. So I got me a hook and I went to the brook to see if my kitty was found and when I got there my kitty was there my pretty grey kitty was drowned."

My family has been singing this song for 8 generations! I would love to find the music and a little history about where it came from.
