Information About This Song
I have read different stories regarding the origin of this famous song but I have also come across something interesting. James J. Fuld in his "The Book of World-Famous Songs" (1966) tells us "Although known in England and in Canada, this is apparently a 'recent' American folk song, the first known printing of which was on Sept. 14, 1920, in the 'Boy Scout Song Book published by C.C. Birchard & Company" In "The Great Song Thesaurus" (Roger Lax & Frederick Smith, 1989) we read: "Old McDonald Had a Farm 1917 w.m . based on English words by Thomas D'Urfay as early as 1706; American music from as early as 1859 with the title 'Litoria! Litoria' This song was first known in America as 'The Gobble Family,' and first published in 1917 with the title 'Ohio.' In this version the owner of the farm is named MacDougal"

I replace EIEIO with AEIOU, so when my son learns the song he'll also learn his vowels.
