Open Up Your Heart And Let The Sun Shine In

Song Video

Lyrics

Mommy told me something
A little kid should know
It's all about the devil
And I've learned to hate him so
She said he causes trouble
When you let him in the room,
He will never ever leave you
If your heart is filled with gloom.

So let the sun shine in
Face it with a grin
Smilers never lose
And frowners never win
So let the sun shine in
Face it with a grin
Open up your heart and let the sun shine in.

When you are unhappy
The devil wears a grin
But oh, he starts to running
When the light comes pouring in
I know he'll be unhappy
'Cause I'll never wear a frown
Maybe if we keep on smiling
He'll get tired of hanging 'round.

If I forget to say my prayers
The devil jumps with glee
But he feels so awful awful
When he sees me on my knees
So if you're full of trouble
And you never seem to win
Just open up your heart and let the sun shine in.

So let the sun shine in
Face it with a grin
Smilers never lose
And frowners never win
So let the sun shine in
Face it with a grin
Open up your heart
And let the sun shine in.

This is a much shorter version

Oh Let the sunshine in,
Face it with a grin.
Smilers never lose and frowners never win.
So let the sunshine in,
Face it with a grin.
Open up your heart and let the sunshine in.

My Mother told me something a little girl should know
It's all about the Devil, and I learned to hate him so.
She says he causes trouble when you let him in the room,
And he'll never ever leave you til your heart is filled with gloom. So let the sunshine in. .

I remember this from when I was little girl and sometimes the tune pops into my head, but I couldn't remember all of the words. So I was very happy to find these lyrics. Thank you for porting them.

I learned this woman with a little girl too and every once in awhile it pops into my mind. I like to think of it as the Son - S-o-n - meaning Jesus. We all seem to do better when the Sun - S-u-n - is shining, but really Jesus is the only one that can help us in the long run and in the short run.

I learned this when I was 3. I am now 64 and it is still a favorite. I am using it to help adults and children to learn it to regain control when they are depressed. I'd like to hear the music if it is played on the internet anywhere. If you know of that would you send me a link. Thank you for this song. It has cherished memories for me. Karen
