Partridge Family TV Theme

Information About Partridge Family TV Theme

"The Partridge Family" is a family-friendly TV show about a group of children who encourage their widowed mother to join them in a singing career. It debuted on ABC on September 25, 1970. The show ran for four seasons, ending on March 23,1974. It was part of the Friday night line-up.

There were two versions of the Partridge Family TV theme song. The first version, "When We're Singing", wasusedduring the first season. The words to the song were changed, and "C'mon Get Happy" became the Partridge Family TV theme for the remainder of the show's run.

"C'mon Get Happy" was a play on the 1920's song "Get Happy". Both songs include the words "Come on, get happy".

David Cassidy (Keith) and Shirley Jones (mother Shirley) were the only singers in the cast. Music producer Wes Farrell used studio musicians to perform the Partridge Family TV theme and other songs used in the show. The cast was to lip-sync the songs. Cassidy convinced Farrell that he could sing, and Farrell then let Cassidy and Jones sing, while the rest of the cast lip-synced.

"The Partridge Family" is based on the real-life family group, The Cowsills. The Cowsills had hits in the 1960s, including the theme song for the musical "Hair". The Cowsills were originally slated to play themselves, but since they were not trained actors, the decision was made to create a family.

When the lyrics to the opening Partridge Family TV theme were changed, the music under the closing credits was also changed. Originally, the closing music was an organ and horn composition. When the opening theme was changed, the closing music was changed to a jazzier, instrumental version of "C'mon Get Happy".

Alternative Lyrics & Related Songs

This is the song in the first season. It was called "When we're singin'"

C'mon now and meet everybody
And hear us singin'.
There's nothin' better than bein' together
When we're singin'.

Five of us and mom working all day.
We know we could help her if our music would pay.
Danny got Rubin to sell our song
And it really came together when mom sang along.

C'mon now and meet everybody
And hear us singin'.
There's nothin' better than bein' together
When we're singin'.
When we're singin'.
When we're singin'.

How many songs writers were involved in the creation of all the songs in the 4 seasons. What are they names or who are they.
