Pease Porridge Hot

Song Lyrics & Words

Pease porridge hot!
Pease porridge cold!
Pease porridge in the pot
Nine days old.

Some like it hot,
Some like it cold,
I like it in the pot
Nine days old!

Information About This Song

The rhyme originated in Europe in the 1600s with reference to days in old Britain, porridge was eaten every day. A big pot of it was made, and as it got lower in the pot, it was just topped up with more. Theoretically, they could get away with doing this for 9 days before it became uneatable.
