Sippin Cider

Lyrics

The prettiest girl
(The prettiest girl)
I ever saw
(I ever saw)
Was sippin' ci-
(Was sippin' ci-)
Der through a straw
(Der through a straw).

The prettiest girl I ever saw
Was sippin' cider through a straw.

I told that gal
(I told that gal)
I didn't see how
(I didn't see how)
She sipped that ci-
(She sipped that ci-)
Der through a straw
(Der through a straw).

I told that gal I didn't see how
She sipped that cider through a straw.

Then cheek to cheek
(Then cheek to cheek)
And jaw to jaw
(And jaw to jaw)
We sipped that ci-
(We sipped that ci-)
Der through a straw
(Der through a straw).

Then cheek to cheek and jaw to jaw
We sipped that cider through a straw.

And now and then
(And now and then)
That straw would slip
(That straw would slip)
And I'd sip some ci-
(And I'd sip some ci-)
Der from her lip
(Der from her lip).

And now and then that straw would slip
And I'd sip some cider from her lip.

And now I've got
(And now I've got)
A mother-in-law
(A mother-in-law)
From sippin' ci-
(From sippin' ci-)
Der through a straw
(Der through a straw).

And now I've got a mother-in-law
From sippin' cider through a straw.

The moral of
(The moral of)
This little tale
(This little tale)
Is to sip your soda
(Is to sip your soda)
Through a pail
(Through a pail).

The moral of this little tale
Is to sip your soda through a pail!

A different ending that a user learned at Girl Scouts camp

That's how I got
(That's how I got)
My mother-in-law
(My mother-in-law)
And forty-nine kids all call me "Ma"
(And forty-nine kids all call me "Ma"
Thats how i got my mother-in-law
And forty-nine kids all call me, kids all call me "Ma".

In this version the singer ends up with 49 kids

The prettiest girl (…the prettiest girl)
I ever saw (…I ever saw)
Was sipping ci- (…was sipping ci-)
-der through a straw (…-der through a straw)
The prettiest girl I ever saw
Was sipping cider through a straw

I asked her if
She’d teach me how
To sip some ci-
-der through a straw
I asked her if she’d teach me how
To sip some cider through a straw

First cheek to cheek
Then jaw to jaw
We sipped that ci-
-der through a straw
First cheek to cheek, then jaw to jaw
We sipped that cider through a straw

And now and then
That straw did slip
And we’d sip ci-
-der lip to lip
And now and then that straw did slip
And we’d sip cider lip to lip

Now forty-nine kids
All call me “pa”
From sipping ci-
-der through a straw
Now forty-nine kids all call me “pa”
From sipping cider through a straw

The moral of
This little joke
Is don’t sip ci-
-der, sip a Coke!
The moral of this little joke
Is don’t sip cider, sip a Coke!

This came to me after I sang it on a bus trip back from some school day out, only heard it once and it stuck with me because I had a HUGE crush on the lead singer in our little 'group' A quick Google search and here are all the words in all their glory, Thank you so much for taking the time and helping me re-live a childhood moment 40 years ago that I have never shared with anyone.

The other day, I saw a bear A great big bear, oh way out there He looked at me, I looked at him He sized up me, I sized up him He said to me, "Why don't you run?" I see you ain't got any gun I said to him, that's a good idea So come on feet, let's up and flee And so I ran, away from there But right behind, me came that bear Up ahead of me, I saw a tree A great big tree, oh glory be! The lowest branch, was 10 feet up I'd have to jump, and trust my luck And so I jumped, onto the air But I missed that branch, oh way up there Now don't you fret, and don't you frown 'Cause I caught that branch, on the way back down That's all there is, there ain't no more Unless I meet, that bear once more.

Looking for the words to "There was a bear away up there." Do you know it. It's the same tune as "Sippen Through A straw."

My grandaughter asked me if I knew a song about cider. I couldn't remember all the words, now almost 80 and we used to sing it as kids. I enjoyed seeing them again.

We used to sing this song on the bus going to summer camp when I was a little girl. That close to 40 years ago! Love to see it's still being sung!
