Sleeping Bunnies

Information About Sleeping Bunnies

The origin of this song is unknown, but it is quite popular among children and parents today. Not only is it a popular song, it is also a very popular nursery rhyme. It seems that it has been around since the 1950's.

This song could be a very popular morning song when children are just waking up or if they are at school, shortly after nap time or very early in the morning, perhaps before any other lessons begin.

A video of this song can be found on YouTube.

This song can be used in helping children to learn how to tell time and to learn their numbers. In the lyrics that feature time, teachers and parents can set up a clock and show the children where the numbers on the clock are and what time is represented by each.

The children can also get in some exercise and physical activity during this song. The bunnies are said to be hopping, so during those lines, the children cane all hop together and pretend that they are bunnies.

Alternative Lyrics & Related Songs

This is a shorter and possibly easier to learn version

See the little bunnies sleeping
Till its nearly noon
Come and let us gently wake them
With a merry tune.

They're so still, Are they ill?
Wake up soon.
Hop little bunnies hop, hop, hop.
Hop little bunnies hop, hop, hop.

More animals cab be added this way

See the Froggies sleeping... hopping
See the puppies sleeping... barking
kitties... meowing
elephants... walking
kangaroos... hopping
butterflies... fluttering
fishes... swimming
birds... flying

Thanks for sharing the song. I heard it a few weeks ago from another teacher so I wanted to use it the other day at an Early Childhood centre I work in, but forgot the beginning. This is a big help and I know the children will love it.

My little girl bridie sings this song and loves it to. She learnt it at childcare in her room and says it's her favorite song. She's trying to teach her 13 month old brother Liam who giggles as she sings it. Ty to the girls for teaching her this unique song.
