Soldier, Won't You Marry Me?

Lyrics

Oh, soldier, soldier, won't you marry me, with your musket, fife, and drum?
Oh, no, sweet maid, I cannot marry thee, for I have no coat to put on.
So up she went to her grandfather's chest, and brought him a coat of the very, very best. She brought him a coat of the very, very best, and the soldier put it on!

Oh, soldier, soldier, won't you marry me, with your musket, fife, and drum?
Oh, no, sweet maid, I cannot marry thee, for I have no boots to put on.
So up she went to her grandfather's chest, and brought him some boots of the very, very best. She brought him some boots of the very, very best, and the soldier put it on!

Oh, soldier, soldier, won't you marry me, with your musket, fife, and drum?
Oh, no, sweet maid, I cannot marry thee, for I have no hat to put on.
So up she went to her grandfather's chest, and brought him a hat of the very, very best. She brought him a hat of the very, very best, and the soldier put it on!

Oh, soldier, soldier, won't you marry me, with your musket, fife, and drum?
Oh, no, sweet maid, I cannot marry thee, for I have no gloves to put on.
So up she went to her grandfather's chest, and brought him some gloves of the very, very best. She brought him some gloves of the very, very best, and the soldier put it on!

Oh, soldier, soldier, won't you marry me, with your musket, fife, and drum?
Oh, no, sweet maid, I cannot marry thee, for I have a wife of my own!

I had no idea Tom Everett Scott and Marissa Tomei were of similar ages where they could play a couple. He will always be that 20 year old kid from Amircean Werewolf in Paris and That Thing You Do.

This is also on KIDiddles and comes from an old British poem from centuries ago. Add more KIDiddles songs, please, like Angels Are Watching and Dear Old Pals! I don't know this song's origin, but it's a traditional nursery rhyme that teaches you clothing words.
