Tell Me Why
Song Lyrics & Words
Tell me why the stars do shine;
Tell me why the ivy twines.
Tell me why the ocean's blue;
And I will tell you just why I love you.
Because He made the stars to shine;
Because He made the ivy twine.
Because He made the ocean blue;
Because He made you,
That's why I love you!
I really think that He above
Created you for me to love;
He picked you out from all the rest -
Because He knew, dear,
That I'd love you best.
Alternative Lyrics & Words
An alternative version that includes God instead of He
Tell me why the stars do shine;
Tell me why the ivy twines.
Tell me why the ocean's blue;
And I will tell you just why I love you.
Because God made the stars to shine;
Because God made the ivy twine.
Because God made the ocean blue;
Because God made you,
That's why I love you!
I really think that God above
Created you for me to love;
He picked you out from all the rest -
Because God knew, dear,
That I'd love you best.

The YouTube video of the older couple singing together was so SWEET. I loved it, and they can really sing, too.

I have been looking for this song for years. We would travel to Columbus alot and on the way my Grandmother and Great-grandmother would sing this. I never could remember all the words.

Like so many others, I have a vague memory of this beautifuyl song, from sunner camp, but I couldn't remember the whole tune and the words. A music store told me it was out of print, so I googled it, and was so glad to find it! You scratched where I itched!

I love this song. It was one of my mother's favorites and I've sung it to my children and grandchildren. It always brings back sweet memories. Thank you Tony and Bobbie!

Thank you! This dates back to my childhood at summer camp and I was thrilled to hear someone singing it again. It's one of the most beautiful ballads ever written, don't you think?
