There Was An Old Chinaman
Song Lyrics & Words
There was an old Chinaman in Japan
His name was Rickety Dickety Dan
His arms were long
his legs were short
And this poor Chinaman he couldn't walk
Chickery chick tra la tra la
Choppity rommity immity awe
Dolfkey dusky dusky doo
Chick chi choo chi choo cha loo
Now this poor Chinaman he did die
And in his coffin he did lie
They sent him back to old Japan
And that was the end of the Chinaman
Chickery chick tra la tra la

I remember another version taught to us by our 3rd grade teacher in 1959. Chickie Chaloo Once there was a Chinaman, his name was Chickie Chaloo, Chapan, His teeth was short, his hair was long and this is the way he marched along. Chickie Chaloo, Chaloo, Chapan, chalopee, olipee, Chickie chalopee, Chickie, Chaloo, Chaloo,Chapan, chalopee, oipee, Chinaman. At last the poor old man did die, and in his coffin he did lie, They took him back to old Japan, and that was the end of the Chinaman. Chickie Chaloo, Chaloo, Chapan, chalopee, olipee, Chickie chalopee, Chickie, Chaloo, Chaloo,Chapan, chalopee, oipee, Chinaman. This was sung to a bouncy tune and you were supposed to sing it in one breath (Which was easier to do when you are younger)
