This Old Man (Knick-knack Paddy-whack)

Song Video

Lyrics

This old man, he played one,
He played knick-knack on my thumb.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played two,
He played knick-knack on my shoe.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played three,
He played knick-knack on my knee.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played four,
He played knick-knack on my door.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played five,
He played knick-knack on my hive.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played six,
He played knick-knack on my sticks.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played seven,
He played knick-knack up in heaven.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played eight,
He played knick-knack on my gate.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played nine.
He played knick-knack on my spine.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played ten.
He played knick-knack once again.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

Sang this at school in mid 1950s. Does anyone remember a pop version in the 60s "he put on his money and the dog came home. This old man got rolling rolling stoned"? Who recorded that?

Hi, Neat post. There is a problem along with your site in internet explorer, might check this? IE still is the market leader and a huge component of other people will leave out your great writing because of this problem.

I used to play a game with this song when I was in grade school. So when I heard my grandma singing around the house, I was absolutely thrilled and had to look up the lyrics so I could sing along.

Stephen, that was a sweet story. I looked up the lyrics because, for some unknown reason I was singing this to myself one evening. Although the lyrics I remember were more.....generic is a good word, I like this version.

As a child of 4 I saw on TV an ad for a fisher price toy movie camera. In the ad the camera played this song so that is how I identified the camera. My mother was frantic at Christmas try to figure out what a Damned nick Knack camera was. She did find out and I got my camera. This song has been a favoritemy whole life.
