Tonight is the Night

Tonight is the night
when dead leaves fly
like witches on switches
across the sky.
When elf and sprite flit
through the night on a moony sheen.

Tonight is the night
when leaves make a sound
like a gnome in his home under the ground.
When spooks and trolls
creep out of the holes,
all mossy and green.

Tonight is the night
when pumpkins stare
through sheaves and leaves everywhere.
When ghoul and ghost and goblin
host dance round their Queen.

It's halloween!

Have a happy & safe halloween!

Let me be more specific: I learned this song at Altamahaw Ossippee Elementary School in Elon, NC in the '60s. The name of our music teacher was Mrs. Gilliam. If any of her relatives see this, please know that she was greatly appreciated!

These lyrics popped in my head this morning and I remember singing this song as a little girl. I was taught this song in school and loved to sing it during Halloween. I love the memories I have of me and my sister singing this song over and over again!

I think this is the song that I vividly remember singing in the 3rd Grade. If I'm right, I SURE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR IT AGAIN SOMETIME, SOME WAY.! The one that I remember was in a minor key and slow. My English teacher had us sing that song. Her name was "Mrs. Herring".
