I sang this as a kid in Girl Scout camp in the '70s; it didn't have the shotgun verse. Now I sing it at the top of my lungs to get my kids to wake up in the morning if they're not getting out of bed. They hate it! :) But it does get them up.

Yeah--we just learned this at Scout camp. After the lines Azusa said, we sang (stage whisper): Shhhhh.... (shouting): THEY'RE DYING! With a wing on the right and a wing on the left The birdies all fall down from the nest. The bright sun comes up, the birds decompose There's maggots and maggots! They're food for the crows. (gross, I know, but the cub scouts loved it....)

I sang this in choir class. And I remember it continues with..."The farmer comes up with shotgun in hand, boom x5, With a wing on the left and a wing on the right, The little birds DIE all through the night.....

Is there a place to download an mp3 file of this song? I don't know the tune and I would like to teach this to a little girl ballet class that I teach. Thank you!

The 3rd continues with..."Out comes the farmer with shotgun in hand, boom boom! boom boom! no birds on my land. There's one birdie left, with one broken wing, chop chop, chop chop...now no birdies sing.
