White Coral Bells

White Coral Bells
Upon a slender stalk
Lilies of the valley deck my garden walk
Oh, don't you wish that you might hear them ring?
That will happen only when the fairies sing.

Mom would like us to sing as a round. My brother was not amused, but usually humured us.

I am 61 years old and my Mom sang us this lovely song too! I chuckle because she would force me to sing it as I have a "Frog"voice--- but I always enjoyed & cherished the memories and cheerfulness of those family car ride singalongs The time passed swiftly as we drove from Grafton Westborough or Worcester to our beloved Cape house.

my mother's mother used to sing this to her and she in turn sang it to me. as we played in the yard we would search for the lilies in our garden, upon finding one we would sing the tune to each other.

This is a charming little song. It was written by, or set to music, by W. L. Jenkins. I found it in a vintage children's song book I own entitled New Music Horitzons, Copyright 1944 and 1953 published by Silver Burdett. Their music books were in many, many schools throughout the United States. By the way, the first three words of the song ARE White coral bells, and NOT white choral bells. There is such a thing as white coral. Look it up! I'm glad to know there are many fans of this sweet song. Keep singing it and teaching it to any children you know.

When I was very young there were lily of the valley growing in a small wooded area behind my house. I used to go spend time there and sing the song which I must have learned it in kindergarten as I was too young for girl scouts. That song and the smell of lily of the valley time travel me back to a time of wonder and innocence.

Well, I'm a little older than some of you ladies. I'm 70 and learned white Coral Bells in Girl Scouts. My most wonderful memories of Girl Scouts are of all the amazing songs. I have them lining my steps that lead from the road up to our house and they are in full bloom right now. As I picked them this morning the smell was full and beautiful. I had forgotten some of the words. Thanks for the help.

I think it's "choral" bells since lilies of the valley only come in white!

I learned this song in Girls Scouts. We sang it in a round. The lilies-of-the-valley are blooming today, and I sang it to a friend after picking a few for him. I've always loved the song.

I have always heard "when the angels sing" rather than "when fairies sing" Maybe because it was bible school.

My sister and cousin used to sit at the piano while my cousin played and we all sang. We were in our early teens. This was one of my favorites and it just popped into my head tonight. I'm now 62 ... such fond memories.
