Start spreading the news
We're leaving today.
We want to be a part of
First grade, first grade.

We've worked very hard
Our teacher is proud.
So open up those doors to
First grade, first grade.

We know our alphabet
And numbers too.
We all can write our names
And tie our shoes!

So when summer's done
And we're finished with play
Our mom's will send us to
First grade, first grade.

If we can make it here
We'll make it anywhere
So here we come
First grade, first grade.

Moving around like the Pop It crew is the way to the perfect dance for you!
Some primates live in trees and some live on the land and in trees. In this episode we meet KINDERZOO's finest primates like our host Gabby the Gibbon, Deni the Douc Langur, Marty the Mandrill, Colin the Colobus Monkey and Mike the Proboscis Monkey. We also learn how Mike got his large nose in Kinderzoo Tales.
In this episode we go on safari in Africa and meet Polly the Springbok Antelope, Harry the Hippopotamus, Rhiannon the Rhinoceros and we see two of our favourites running around - Debra the Forgetful Zebra and Ryan the Lion. Our KInderzoo Tale this week is about how Gerry the Giraffe got his long neck.

Information About First Grade, First Grade

First Grade, First Grade, a fun song kindergarten children about to graduate to first grade can perform for parents at their leaving party, is sung to the tune of 'New York, New York'.

Recorded and made unforgettable by singer Frank Sinatra during 1979, the tune was, of course, written by Kander and Ebb. This team of writers produced a huge number of popular tunes from the 1960s onwards.

The lyrics for First Grade, First Grade were written by primary school teacher Sherri Hobbs, Texas (not to be confused with Sherri Hobbs, the Gospel singer). Sadly not widely known, this fact is highlighted as part of Kimi Sturgeon's (Stafford Primary School, 2012) rendition of the song.

First Grade, First Grade is great fun for performing children and watching adults alike, as this cute performance clearly shows. Often ending with a little dance or, as in the above example, hat-waving, this delightful little song is definitely a great way to celebrate graduation from kindergarten to first grade.

Teachers could even show their little students how to form a chorus line, link arms and then kick their legs high up into the air, while ending the song by singing 'La-la-lalala-la-la-lalala-la-la-lalala-la' before taking a bow.
