Song Video

1st Verse:
Oh, give me a home, where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Home, home on the range,
Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

2nd Verse:
Where the air is so pure, the zephyrs so free,
The breezes so balmy and light,
That I would not exchange my home on the range
For all the cities so bright.

3rd Verse:
Oh, give me a land where the bright diamond sand
Flows leisurely down the stream;
Where the graceful white swan goes gliding along
Like a maid in a heavenly dream.

4th Verse:
The red man was pressed from this part of the West,
He's likly no more to return
To the banks of Red River where seldom if ever
Their flickering campfires burn.

5th Verse:
How often at night when the heavens are bright
With the light of the glittering stars,
Have I stood here amazed and asked as I gazed
If their glory exceeds that of ours.

6th Verse:
Oh, I love these wild flowers in this dear land of ours;
The curlew I love to hear scream;
And I love the white rocks and the antelope flocks
That graze on the mountain-tops green.

7th Verse:
Then I would not exchange my home on the range,
Where the deer and the antelope play;
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Information About Home on the Range

The song "Home on the Range" is the state song of Kansas and often considered an unofficial anthem of the Wild West. The original words come from a poem called "My Western Home" and were written by Dr. Brewster M. Higley in the early 1870s in Smith County, Kansas. The poem was published in December of 1873 and given the title of "Oh, Give Me a Home Where the Buffalo Roam".

The music for the song was written Daniel E. Kelley who was a friend of Mr. Higley and the first known performance of which was in 1873, 12 years before any record of "Colorado Home", which was just one of many local adaptations carried throughout the West by the millions of folks that passed through Kansas in the late 1800s.

"Home on the Range" is performed on various occasions in American when some kind of patriotic music is needed, and has been repeatedly used in films and plays.

The song was a favourite of American President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

This version is all about money

Oh, give me a home where the bank notes roam
Where the coins and the credit cards play
I just want some cash, can you not give me that?
I only want to be paid.

Home, home in the bank
Where the coins and the credit cards play
Where often there is cash being exchanged
And the ATMs giving out cash.
