Information About I'm Being Swallowed by a Boa Constrictor

Sheldon Alan ("Shel") Silverstein was an American poet, singer-songwriter, and writer of children's books, who was born in Chicago in the year 1930. He attended schools in the Chicago area until 1953 when he was drafted into the US Army, and served in Japan and Korea.

His first published cartoon appeared in the college newspaper of Roosevelt University when he attended there; in the Army, some of his cartoons were published in the newspaper that serves the United States Armed Forces, called 'Stars and Stripes'. "Stars and Stripes" publishes a daily newspaper that is distributed to every service person outside of the United States.

This silly song "I'm Being Swallowed by a Boa Constrictor" was one of many songs Silverstein wrote and published, particularly during the 1960s. "Boa" was first published in 1962, and was popularized in a recorded version by the American folk music trio, Peter, Paul, and Mary.

Boa constrictors are very large snakes, that can grow up to twelve feet long, and are found in Mexico, Central and South America. Of course you couldn't actually be swallowed by a boa constrictor, even as big as they are: they much prefer to eat mice, bats, and small amphibians!
