Song Video

Over in Killarney
Many years ago,
Me Mither (My Mother) sang a song to me
In tones so sweet and low.
Just a simple little ditty,
In her good 'ould' (old) Irish way,
And I'd give the world if she could sing
That song to me this day.

"Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, hush now, don't you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral, that's an Irish lullaby."

Oft in dreams I wander
To that cot again,
I feel her arms a-huggin' me
As when she held me then.
And I hear her voice a-hummin'
To me as in days of yore,
When she used to rock me fast asleep
Outside the cabin door.

Hush, now don't you cry!

That's an Irish lullaby.

Moving around like the Pop It crew is the way to the perfect dance for you!

Information About Irish Lullaby

Actually titled 'Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ral', it is a classic Irish song that was written by James Royce Shannon in 1914. While he wrote the music and lyrics, it is believed that he might have based it on a much older melody. It premiered in a production of Chauncey Olcott's Shameen Dhu (Black-haired Jimmy).

The song was popularized by Bing Crosby when he sang it on his 1944 album Going My Way. The chorus was used in the song Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners in 1982. Portions of the song have been used in many other movies and music, in one way or another.

There is actually a second verse that goes: Oft in dreams I wander to that cot again. I feel her arms a-hugging me as when she held me then. And I hear her voice a humming to me as in days of yore, when she used to rock me fast asleep outside that cabin door.
