Lyrics
The animals came in two by two;
Vive la compagnie!
The centipede with the kangaroo.
Vive la compagnie!
The animals came in three by three,
The elephant on the back of the flea;.
The animals came in three by three,
Vive la compagnie!
The animals came in four by four;
Vive la compagnie!
The camel he got stuck in the door.
Vive la compagnie!
The animals came in five by five,
Some were dead and some were alive;.
The animals came in five by five,
Vive la compagnie!
The animals came in six by six;
Vive la compagnie!
The monkey he was up to his tricks.
Vive la compagnie!
The animals came in seven by seven,
Some went to hell and others to heaven;.
The animals came in seven by seven,
Vive la compagnie!
The animals came in eight by eight;
Vive la compagnie!
The worm was early, the bird was late.
Vive la compagnie!
The animals came in nine by nine,
Some had water and some had wine;.
The animals came in nine by nine,
Vive la compagnie!
The animals came in ten by ten;
Vive la compagnie!
If you want any more you must sing it again.
Vive la compagnie!
Information About The Animals Came In Two By Two
This fun nursery rhyme has many different cultural verses, but only one origin?The Bible. The story of Noah and how he listened to God and built an ark, loading it with his family and many, many animals-two by two. Noah saved his family and the animals from a great flood. Although the animals may change through culture beliefs, the story is the same.
God instructed Noah to load two of every living creature; male/female, that he could find. Noah also had to load all the food the animals would need, and food for his family. After all was loaded, Noah and his family set sail in the ark, it rained for forty days and forty nights. The earth remained flooded for 150 days.
The idea behind this story is that God wanted the earth cleansed of all things wicked, not the people just wickedness and sin.
If you do the math and follow Genesis 7:2-3. you will find that Noah had to load seven pairs of clean animals, and two of every other kind of animal. If he did the math, Noah would have realized that was 42,000 animals to load.
After all was loaded and Noah and his family were aboard, it is said that God closed the door to the ark, as it was so heavy, no normal man could.
Researchers continue to un-lock the mysteries surrounding Noah's Ark, pushing to prove the ark existed and the story is true. To read more specifics and religious meanings in different cultures go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noah%27s_Ark.
For some fun activities. try animal identification of each of Noah's animals. Cut out pictures and have them identify them; add in animal noises for fun. Another fun craft to teach children about the story is to make a paper Ark mobile with a rainbow.
